How I Got Here

I'm making this blog public - for more than just my family members to keep tabs on me while so far away! - so I thought I would give a little background on just why a petite, Caucasian, American, young professional would pack up her moderately successful life and move half way around the world alone. Surprisingly, its a relatively short story.

My mother says I have lived a "charmed" life...until now. 2010 was a rough year. Family health issues (mom diagnosed with breast cancer), frustrating employment (economic slump can be rough for private practice - shocker), and relationship upheaval (fondly labeled Divorce 2010), have forced me to make some big decisions for myself...for what feels like the first time in my life. The biggest decision has been on a new job; specifically, to stay in Chicago - my home, where my friends live, a city that I adore - or to move on from these emotionally stagnant waters to something and somewhere completely different...basically, to take the road less traveled.

So, I've decided to take that ominous fork in the road, and accept a job on the other side of the world - Daegu, South Korea. It's an adventure. I've always wanted to live internationally, but ASIA?? Never crossed my mind until now. It just seems like the right thing to do, however, to shake me out of a many-months-long funk, and do some true good while I'm at it.

Ok, so the real story is much longer than that, and maybe along the way I'll fill in some details. For now, just enjoy my ride along with me.

And PS, I'm not really alone...my trusty feline companion, Furgie, will be at my side!
