I am struggling to maintain my regular running schedule on my new body clock, with my new training/work schedule, and without my running group! I'm creating this page in the high hopes it'll help motivate me to get out there and explore all Korea has to offer in terms of running - trails, city routes, races. Seoul is one of the largest marathons in the world, so I'm going to assume there is some interest in the sport:)
I hope this can be a good resource for you, and a handy journal for me.
13 March 2011 - Another 5 Miles along the Sinchon River
Have been semi-diligently running over the past 2 weeks, following my 10-mile race running plan. Still have my eyes on running a 10-miler by myself on May 28, in solidarity with the Soldier Field 10 Mile race in Chicago. By "semi" I mean getting all the miles in, but not on the schedule on the calendar. I hate to sound lame, especially considering where I've come from, but the wind coming down from the mountains has been chilly and motivation-zapping!! But I'm getting in the habit of running with it in my face, and it's getting warmer, so I'm getting better.
What I have found really interesting is how much time and mental energy I can spend doing standard-to-metric conversions while I run. Thank God I ran track senior year in high school, or I'd be lost in terms of gauging distance. The smart runner that I am, I totally packed my Garmin away in my household goods shipment, so its been wasting battery life floating along in the Pacific on a very slow boat for the past month.5, while I am forced to use my brain while running:) The good news is that it's a great distraction, having to add and subtract 1600m along the river path, which is marked every 200m. And by "marked" I mean it WAS marked originally but some measurements have been worn down and rubbed off, so I still need to keep track whenever I see numbers:) Also a great distraction. And it's funny, because every time I run here, I'm reminded of my friend Gary who asked me, somewhat incredulously, a long time ago, "What do you think about when running for so long?" Now, MATH! ;p
Runs for this week:
Monday: 3 miles
Thursday: 4 miles with speedwork (1 warmup at 10min, 2 UPHILL unintentionally at between 9:30 and 8:30, 1 at 10min)
Today: 5 miles, LSD (long, slow, distance)
26 Feb 2011 - 5 Miles Along River Path
New training program, and my first long run over 3 miles in a long time. Scheduled to run 4, and ended up running 5! Perfect day for trying out the riverside path near my apartment. I think its going to be a great way to explore the city!
